Cool! Good grief, there's gotta be a lot of engineering into that thing. The millenium began 12/31/2000-1/1/2001, doofus, not 1999. That's a Prince song. Pilgrimage??!? This would be an excellent basis for a sci-fi/fantasy novel. The Rise of teh Cult of the Timekeepers.
There was an NPR interview with one of the engineers, and my favorite bit was something like "Well, we had an engineer out here from India, and he went all over the clock, and finally said "Okay, but in five thousand years, when they're sacrificing virgins on it, the blood's gonna get down in there and gum up the works." One hopes they have taken precautions re: virgin blood.
