on the outside you can go try to find a different doctor, or remove yourself from the situation that is causing your illness. In prison, you are stuck.
I saw over twenty inmates come down with MRSA because all of our laundry was being washed together, and nobody had the choice to have their clothes washed separately, even when it became known that we had an infection spreading through the unit.
His problems were, from the article, a bad back, bad foot, arthritis, carpal tunnel, and a lump on his chest. How does he remove himself from the situation causing those things? How does he go to a different doctor when he has no doctor? There's no NHS here, and very very few support mechanisms, none of which he qualified for by going through the "correct" channels.
His choice was between no treatment on the outside and shitty treatment on the inside, and I know which one I would pick.
yeah, according to the article, he didn't have much choice. Even so, he still made a bad choice. Instead of robbing a bank, he should have robed a Post Office. Robing a Post Office is a Federal crime, and you do time in a Federal Penitentiary. Federal prisons are miles above any State joint in how well the inmates get treated.
But...I guess a person wouldn't know that offhand.

I am fucking lucky I made it out alive. I can name six that I knew who didn't, and I was only in for two years.
This dude has made a terrible mistake.
