Of course, that doesn't even count the number of people that were educated in public schools and attended public universities, or the number of people that have taken a drive on a publicly funded road or a stroll on a publicly funded sidewalk. Everyone benefits from government programs.
So, the US treasury could save a fortune by printing "PROVIDED BY U.S. GOVERNEMENT" on all the cheques and paperwork. Surely these highly principaled libertarians wouldn't dream of using the money if they knew the programmes were government funded.
Who, incidentally, do they think funds these programmes? That's the question that needs answering next.
A good comparison, but shame about the 'Crazification Factor' bullshit. Pointing out right-wing hypocricy without pinning it on people with mental health problems is trivially easy. People can be thoughtless, irrational and stupid without being disabled.
.... I take it you haven't heard the term before. (http://kfmonkey.blogspot.com/2005/10/lunch-discussions-145-crazification.html)
It has very little to do with mental illness and more that 27% of the US population will consistently make decisions that are clearly, obviously, objectively, in every way, wrong.
"Crazy" is most often used as a slur for the mentally ill. As are "Batshit crazy" and "Head-trauma crazy" (same article). The fact that you're throwing the slur at a different group (as a way of dismissing their political viewpoints by lumping them in with a social group traditionally viewed as irrational and unworthy of a voice in politics) doesn't detract from the fact that that's what the word means.
I agree that a lot of people make ignorant, biased, reactionary and utterly bullshit political decisions. I disagree with lumping them in with the mentally ill. There are better ways of shooting down bullshit arguments and social trends, that don't involve pissing down the kyriarchal ladder on people with comparatively little voice in it.
whisperkit has their argument in order. It is objectively discriminatory to people with mental illnesses to use crazy, which qualifies as a slur against them, to and apply "Crazy" to the irresponsible and dumb actions of say, neo cons. Whiserkit explained pretty reasonably why that is the case. Your reaction to it kind of demonstrates exactly why. Having a mental disorder isn't worse than being a giant self serving asshole a la Capt Keep Gov't out of medicare. Not trying to go all long winded and accuse you personally of being a discriminatory hater, only that the argument you are making is grounded in discriminatory principles that you potentially hadn't been previously made aware of.
Ableism and similar discriminatory avenues that aren't as well known as racism/sexism are still very real and happening, and not ever previously having had say an equivalence drawn between "Gimp" "Lame" "Bitch" and "Fag" doesn't mean that other, incredibly pervasive terms don't have a hurtful history all their own that gets overlooked.
I'm certainly personally guilty of throwing many slurs like lame around, even now that I've had the opportunity to see why and how they are slurs. It's simply a product of the culture I grew up in and breaking ingrained habits.
