"The truth is our pole star, science is the vessel we use to progress, and a passion to explore and learn is the engine of our purpose." - Paul Myers.

PS: Belief in magic is the abdication of thinking and the admission of an inability to defend against The Space Werewolf. And if you can't defend against The Space Werewolf, you WILL be eaten.

What if you believe in magics specifically designed to defeat the space werewolf?

You will be eaten, because no matter what you believe the magic will do, magic still doesn't exist.

If you don't, you don't get eaten by the Space Werewolf and thus don't have to worry about it.

What about belief in belief in magic? Not for entirely semantic reasons, as I dabble in chaote spirituality now and then from a psychological perspective. ;)

The quote is alright. I think any attempt to define 'the engine of our purpose' for the entire human race is doomed to fail, and that the last part is no exception.

Well, given that he was defining the 'engine of purpose' for the sceptic movement, he's probably ok.

Curious. I'd throw in something about social activism/humanist ethics/the benefits of science to the population if I were to try and define the movement. Eh, I should probably read the entire article if the quote was never intended by the author to be a stand-alone thing. :)
