G+ and the "blocked" circle.

Tried to accept the G+ invite again, this time it worked without signing up for spam. Signed in, looked around, discovered that an old friend from high school has a PhD from Stanford and works for Google and Would I Like To Add Him To A Circle, became briefly depressed.

Checked out "Circles", got myself added by three more people in the ten seconds it took for me to skim my way around, and noticed that I have six people "Blocked".

This seems odd, so I check it out: Two of them are harald387's gmail addresses, which don't have Google+ accounts and who I talk to via email and GChat regularly. One is jsbowden, who, again, I haven't banned. Two are lj-less people I know but haven't banned in Google Anything, and one is a COMPLETE STRANGER who I've never heard of. Skimming his profile suggests that he knows some people I know, but I have NO idea who he is.

So, G+ users: What's up with that? Pre-blocked users where I haven't ever used Google+ before, who are NOT banned in other google apps and who in at least one case have no G+ account themself?

I don't know. The only person I have blocked is someone I really blocked (and would push into oncoming traffic, for the record).

Any chance you accidentally blocked them on chat? I sometimes do that and have to unblock people. Could be that it's reading from a different dataset than gchat.

Nope. I asked one of them, via GChat, if he had a Google+ account at all. They're not blocked there.

That's really strange---everyone I've blocked on, say, Picasa or Buzz showed up as blocked in my circles, but no one I hadn't blocked explicitly somewhere was in the blocked circle.

Tangentially, would like to add you to Darkfriendly circles; can't find you with a firstname-lastname search. Any clues, or do you prefer to just not be added at the moment?

This. At least, the tan-genitals part. I didn't have anyone show up as blocked (because I haven't blocked anyone OR had it malfunction on me) so... I dunno!

Ah! When Buzz first came out, I Opted The Fuck Out In Every Way Immediately - I'm wondering if this is at all related to my checking all the "no, no, no, fuckoff, never, DELETE DELETE ALL GOOGLE BUZZ IS THE ENEMY OF THE CYBERMEN" boxes I could find.

It's possible that this is related!

I did the same thing when buzz came out, but I'm still a bit lost in G+ so don't know where to go to see if I've got blocked people as well.

Circles page. If you see a red Circle with the word "Blocked" in it, you've got blocked people.

Right now I'm playing with it, and haven't stuck my last name on it. I'm deciding if I want to do that and not link anything from here ever, or leave the name unfinished and not worry about journal/name crosspollination.

It's not a matter of "must be real name", it's more "I keep my real name and my livejournal separate". So I need to pick which ID to use.

Yeah, my boyfriend came pre-blocked on my account. It was a little odd. I hadn't gotten his invites, either--he'd tried twice, and somebody else finally had to do it.

That's why it's still in beta, I guess.

I dunno. I had about half a dozen people in my blocked circle, several of them people I am good friends with and was trying to invite to G+.
