I JUST finished all of Firefly again, so I know most of it was Firefly, but the stuff I didn't recognize, I figured was Serenity since I haven't seen it in a while.
Apparently, the new hot shit on the little kids' tv block is 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic', which somehow has turned out to be *awesome*, and a lot of us who aren't little kids.. at least not on the outside.. think it is awesome too. The main writer-person has managed to keep a lot of creative control, including jokes of the sort Disney movies used to be good for.. jokes that adults get and children will be be amused by even though they probably don't get all of it. Also, she has realized that it has a grown-up following especially on the internet and has made references to the internet's memes about the show, in the show.
Ah, thanks for that. Interesting. I might wanna watch that then.. I firmly believe Spongebob was a cartoon made for adults that children can watch. Love me some cartoons. I had just assumed those were old My Little Pony cartoons, not a new ones.
I find it a bit disturbing that I have never seen a single episode of this show, but I know all of the main characters' names just because of watching all of the goddamned fan videos that everyone on my friends' list keeps linking. I must say, though, that the Twilight Sparkle as GlaDOS video was amazing.
Basically some mad fuck at Hasbro decided to get Lauren Faust, who is an evil cartoon making genius, to do a My Little Pony cartoon and come up with some designs that could be made into dolls to sell to little girls.
Lauren Faust then somehow created a fucking mind virus, which began its spread on 4Chan's /co/ board, before it finally jumped to /b/ and turned the internet hate machine into some weird brightly coloured post-heteronormative rainbow brigade of My Little Pony fans.
This led to something about as horrible as it sounds, but then the saddlesore mods at /b/ made posting ponies a bannable offense, and that's how equestria daily (and ponychan and ponibooru) was made.
One of the ways it has spread is because basically all the creativefags from 4chan latched onto the show because it was a perfect storm of incredibly sharp writing, wonderful yet simplistic art work, matched to extremely high quality animation (plus musical numbers that get stuck in your head FOREVEEERRR), so there's been this seemingly endless stream of just awesome fan produced product, a major chunk of which has been the "ponified trailers" thing which this is a part of, in which the sound from a movie trailer is overlayed to various clips from My Little Pony, so you have things like Pony Craft 2 (http://youtu.be/JJbAT1wzS8U), or Elder Scrolls VI: Equestria (http://youtu.be/egrlzkKa6O8).
And then there's the really creative stuff, like Corridors of Cupcakes (http://youtu.be/nNDMEVJzvfQ) (which is a version of "corridors of time" from the snes game Chrono Trigger redone using nothing but sound samples from the show) or this redoing of this (http://youtu.be/L53gjP-TtGE) Kanye West video with nothing but PONIES (http://youtu.be/8srUyAIjCdo).
Since I completely stay away from anything 4chan related, I have no idea what /co/ or /b/ is... But that was kind of a ridiculously amazing response. I'm going to go watch your linked pony vids now and try to get a handle on this thing..
