(And yes, I shaved the cat. He's *ecstatic* to get out from all that fur, purring and playing again like he did when it wasn't thirty fucking degrees out.)

He was the one you found who was declawed, right? Has that affected his... recuperation, I guess?

Yes, but he wasn't actually declawed.

Short version: He's an IDIOT, and I wasn't willing to fight him when he was a new cat. When I first got him, I picked him up, he struggled, he fell, he grabbed for me, and didn't use his claws. I picked him up, grabbed a paw, felt for claws, tried to push out his claws, and failed. And then [livejournal.com profile] torrain did the same thing.

So we concluded he'd been declawed.

He's got claws, he just won't use them, *ever*, when he's around strange people or strange situations. And he rolls his knuckles to keep anyone from pushing his claws out. Combined with the Montreal vet clipping his claws very short, we thought he didn't have any, until we caught him sharpening them.

Little guy just likes to make a good impression!
Mab is very careful with her claws around people too, but not to that extent.

I disagree. I, for one, look very odd shaven.

But that's because except for a very brief period, I've had a mustache for most of the last 20 years.

He's looking... er... good? I am Most Pleased to hear that he does have claws after all. Curious that he won't use them.

I've just had to clip the Akita's back after he crawled under the HOT BARBECUE. He burned all the hair over his shoulders, and I had to cut the singed hair away. Fortunately his coat is so thick he never noticed anything burning.

Uh, that is a cat, yes? And you shaved it? Without being reduced to mere shreds?

Strange cat is strange.

(Disclaimer: mine just head for the (empty) bathtub when it's too hot. As I don't move much when it's Too Hot, I don't much care if they move much in that case.)

How short did you crop his fur, and if the answer is "very", does that create problems with getting sore when grooming himself?

(FWIW: I heartily approve of 2/3 of the books in that picture, and that's only because I don't know the one on top.)

My cats love me too (I think), but that wouldn't stop my little Siamese from trying to turn me into sushi if I shaved her. The bengal/mau mix...she'd whine loudly (inspiring the neighbors to think we were torturing a child) and roll over and pretend to rake us with her hind claws, but she'd keep them sheathed. It's lucky that the cat with the most potential for mayhem has the most compunctions about causing it.

We were actually thinking today of shaving her. She has an incredibly dense coat like a raccoon's, and I have the impression that she's too warm and wouldn't mind taking it off. But it's such a gorgeous coat that I hate to mess with it.

Oh man, that shaved pussy looks weird.

Err... I mean... er... yeah.

Must be a blessing to be able to escape all that heat!

My best friend had a lovely sheepdog, who they thought was fat so they kept her on a diet for two years.

Then they thought one summer to shave her, and found that she was quite skinny underneath all that fur, bless her.

He's a great cat. Was very happy to hear he still has his claws. Or his Mr Maimers as I like to call them.
