Mormon Prophet gets life in prison.

He'll be eligible for parole, technically, when he's 100.

The polygamist cult again? Boring. I'll start becoming interested when there's news leaked of blatant corruption in the mainstream church. That would be sweet.

Hey, they've got the same books, same incompetent grasp of history, and same evidence for their claims. The only point of disagreement is in who God is *currently* talking to.

How can you tell them apart from the "main" cult with a straight face?

The mainstream branch distances itself as much as possible from the smaller fundamentalist sects, and although they do have the same books and make-believe history, they disagree about more than just who their prophet is. Mostly where polygamy, public relations, and cowardly appeasing the government are concerned.

Well, yes, but the Catholic Church and the True Catholic Church distance themselves from each other, as well. The Southern Baptists and the Conference Of Southern Baptists claim to have nothing to do with one another.

The only measurable difference between Thomas Monson and Warren Jeffs, from a theological perspective, is the number of followers. And if that's the actual defining factor, there's all kinds of "cults" in for a rude awakening.
