Dinner turned out well!

Steamed artichokes, baked mediterranean chicken with chick peas, and a highly modified Fork Bastard Green Beans

Green beans
choppped celery
chopped bell pepper
"Orange pepper oil" - a small jar of olive oil with orange and black pepper flavours. Honestly, you could just use olive oil and a little citrus flavour and pepper to get the same result. Or just ignore the citrus entirely, it didn't add much. I just wanted to use the orange pepper oil.
Soy sauce
Sriracha
Ginger
Garlic

Mix all the stuff. Toss. Let sit for a little bit. Toss in a wok. Fry. Stir. Fry. Stir. Stir-fry.

Result: cooked-but-still-crunchy faux-Szechuan vegetables with a nice spicy kick to them, without adding a ton of calories. Easy, cheap, good: I'm doing this one again.

That looks wonderful. I think I might add some pink peppercorns... that light, smell-of-rock-in-the-sun flavour really goes well with citrus.

Out of curiosity, what do you do with your steamed artichokes? I freaking LOVE artichokes, but I usually just have them with melted butter or umeboshi vinegar.

Last night, it was just plain old melted butter with a bit of lemon juice. That's how we usually eat 'em.

That's probably best. I've had them stuffed and fussy, but a plain steamed artichoke is great.

Slices of lemon put *under* the artichokes in the steamer is also actually pretty good - a layer of flat lemon slices, with the artichokes put directly on top of them, will result in the entire plant tasting lemony. But I find that unless I'm not putting lemon in the butter, that's just too wasteful for the result.

Now that's something I'll have to try. I usually put a bit of salt and some white wine and a couple of cloves of garlic in the water. Maybe chucking lemon peels in there?
