There was.

The bad guys lost on the grounds of being moderately popular until they started talking about their plans, preferences, and goals, at which point everyone remembered they were out of their fucking minds.

That mistake - talking about their plans, preferences, and goals - is something the FEDERAL party never makes any more, which is why they're currently in office. The provincial parties haven't figured out the "holy fuck, our plans (and candidates) are racist and stupid, we should avoid talking about them (and allowing them to speak)" part yet.

That sounds a lot like American politics, except the racist/stupid/bad guys--the "Tea Party" maybe-fringe-maybe-not of the Republican Part--have been talking about their plans/preferences/goals non-stop, it's abundantly clear that they're racist/stupid, and yet their popularity continues unabated.
