At a Swancon a few years back, we had 'The Breakfast of Champions' - An American guest had brought of crates of American breakfast cereals to show the Aussies. Unbelievable - when the boxes were opened the sugar was enough to make my eyes water.

The message seems to be that sugary breakfast cereals are not good for you. In what way does that fail, again?

Sugar makes you fat and obesity lends itself to a litany of health risks. Is it total fail to address this issue?

Yeah, because it's totally a phobia if you value your health.

Suggesting that obesity is something negative that needs correcting is fatphobic hate speech, yes. According to certain parts of the internet.

Nope. Not even in the slightest. In fact, saying that obesity is somehow okay and must not be criticized ever because it's nothing more than an expression of beautiful individuality is not only highly irrational and delusional but also seriously dangerous, considering the immense health risks and negative impacts on overall well-being.
As such, certain parts of the internet need to read up on both medical literature as well a basic logic.

I'm pretty sure he's mocking parts of the internet and no one is picking up on the sarcasm.

Agreed -- I think that the titles and the elements used in the parody are clever, but the straight-up fat hate in the caricatures wasn't necessary.

I find it odd that Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Apple Cinnamon Cheerios aren't modified--they contain just as much sugar as the more ostentatiously sugary cereals!

That seemed a bit odd to me, too.

I wasn't allowed to have any of these, growing up...my mom was kind of a health-food nut (which, at the time, meant a lot of Adele Davis recipes). Raisin Bran and Cheerios (the non-flavored kind) were about as crazy as it got.

We generally had the cereals that appeared to be less sugary--Cheerios (including flavored), Kix, Raisin Bran, even Frosted Mini Wheats--but none with marshmallows or sugary names. That said, I was rather surprised to find, checking labels in college, that Honey Nut Cheerios has more sugar per serving (due to the honey) than Frosted Flakes!

These days, I don't demonize sugar, even in "sugary cereals", and just balance my diet accordingly.

I wonder if our editor friend saw the "WHOLE GRAIN GUARNATEED" on only those two and assumed it meant they're better, or if they just forgot, or couldn't think of any decent alt names.

All the prominently-visible, non-modifed cereals that have "Whole grain guaranteed" written on them (not just at the sides but behind the modified cereals) - I take it that's a single brand that doesn't produce any of the parodied cereals? Are we to assume this picture is their doing?

While some General Mills products are parodied, I see your point: the "whole grain" logo is seen behind the parodied products across the entire lower shelf.

I'm surprised that none parody the "fat free food" plastered over most sugar snacks!
