Indeed. You can see the skin at the sides of the mouth sort of flickering as the eyeball is pushed out. If it were real, it would be stretched taut and consistent; instead, the flickering look is caused by not quite matching up the placement and/or colour in each frame. But yeah, it's good enough that most people won't catch the bits that give it away.
