I was discussing having too many games and explaining that I wasn't going to buy Skyrim because I had all these other games and she said "What's Skyrim?" so I put on the trailer and

It's 3/4 here, with the rest arriving in the next 20 minutes. Advantage: PC - no need to wait for someone to "ship" a "disk".

Well, I figured I'd rather get it on the 360 (especially since my computer would probably be a bit slow for it) so... yeah.

I hope you'll share your thoughts on Skyrim! I'm really tempted to get it, but I also have the new Batman and (will have) the new Assassin's Creed game. Too many games, not enough time!

I'm deciding if I'll be a dork and pick up my prepaid discs at midnight tonight, or wait until morning like a civilized 40 something.

Other than a father there with his teenage sons, I think I was the oldest person in the store. At midnight. I definitely had the most grey hair. And I loudly berated young whippersnappers who tried to cut in line.

And I am not sorry about any of it!!!

It's a damn good thing today is a holiday at work...

As someone who's never played any Elder Scrolls game, which is a good one to start with, also, which are the ones to play, and which to avoid?

I've never played 1 or 2, and 3 was just unplayably dated when I got it for super-cheap on sale.

So I'm mostly going to tell you "get 4. 4 was great."

And I'll give an opinion on 5, later.

Agreed. Oblivion (4) was amazing. And very replayable, I found, since if you do things in a different order all the enemies will be different types than the first time around.

I played Morrowind back when it was first released and loved it, but by modern standards it is a bit dated.

I do have to say that your reaction is pretty standard: Everyone who played 3 at the time is all ZOMG AWESOME GAME GREAT FUN MANY HOURS WOULD PLAY AGAIN ++

And everyone who's played it since, like, 2009, has been all "this is like trying to go back to Fallout 1 after playing Tactics" or "this is like trying to play Starcraft after Total Annihilation hit the shelves"

Yup. And that's a bit of a nuisance but not a super-big deal - the lost password is salted and hashed and encrypted, is unique to Steam, and can't be changed without an email to my account (which also can't be changed without an email) and a code they text to my cellphone.

So, I mean, someone can log into my account... except they can't even do THAT without the email and the text message.

They could steal my credit card, I suppose, if they can decrypt that. That would be annoying, but it's not like the company isn't used to dealing with that kind of thing.

I haven't been following it, but why does this one seem to be getting a lot more pre-release hooplah than the previous ones?

(no subject)

Date: 2011-11-12 09:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] theweaselking.livejournal.com
Because it's 2011, and there's a lot more hoopla available to the casual user than back in 2006 when the last one came out?

More seriously: 5th game in a series where the previous 4 have all ranked high on a lot of people's "best games ever" lists. From a company who's been regularly knocking this kind of game out of the park. Where the last three games *like* this one (4, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas) have been month-eating monsters of fun.

True, I was just wondering if there was some new mega-gimmick or something that I wasn't hearing about.
