It's tragic how they've bred the once-noble wombat into the various "teacup" breeds. I hear Paris Hilton carried one in her purse, until it got out and burrowed into the foundations.

The wombats bred to herd sheep are the strangest. They burrow under the flock, and when one attempts to stray, suddenly a wombat pops out of the ground in front of them.

They fell out of favor when the sheep kept having heart attacks.

Bravo. I was thinking of the guard wombat, whose dedication to protecting root and wine cellars elevated it to a heraldic animal in parts of France.
