Bob help me, I'm thinking of restarting, because I've got *just* enough broken quests and missing triggers that I'm annoyed. I've capped all the skills I'm going to, I've completed the main quest and a good dozen of the other chains.... and I'm aware of at least three other full quest chains that I haven't even started.

So I might just store my Khajiit sneaky-bow thief/assassin/Rebel and start with, say, a High Elf Bard/Wizard/GO THALMOR WOOO! EMPIRE! EMPIRE! sort.

Things I have learned:
Damage comes from perks. Seriously, when I'm doing 250 with a bow and 36 with a Daedric Greataxe? There's a MESSAGE, there. And that message is "take the perks, they provide the damage".

Hah, I see the restartitis is starting to creep in to others. My dunmer thiefly/assassiny/Imperial type is up to level... 7? 8? something like that so far...

I had a bit of trouble, cause I was thinking "damnit, if she's more selfish/darker, why would she join the Empire when they tried to kill her?" And then I realized... "to find and kill that bitch of a captain that was just like "oh, pfft, kill her, I don't care if she's on the list or not."

So, yay!

I always, always restart after about 8-12 hours into an RPG. Once I am familiar with the mechanics by trial and error, I know a lot better what I really want to be doing.

That would drive me nuts.

Admittedly, I'm just now restarting after, like, 80 hours (Hi, my name is John and I'm an addict) but that's to play differently, not "just because I wasted a few perks on Destruciton before I learned how the game works"

.... fuck. I'm playing a Destruction mage. (okay, a mage. I've only got a few points in Destruction. What, dare I ask, am I missing in how bad it is?)

Nothing! But I *wasn't* playing a Destruction mage.

I was playing an Archer. I didn't want to up my Magicka too far, or take a lot of perks in the Destruction tree, but I dropped a COUPLE of points there early on because I found the low-level flamethrower spells to be really handy against groups of enemies. As I levelled up, my first two perks in Destruction just got less and less useful - I didn't use the skills enough to level up and qualify for the higher perks, I didn't have the magicka to fuel the bigger spells, and the little spells that I'd gotten my discount on simply didn't do any damage worth mentioning.

If you focus on an area, putting perks into it is worthwhile.
If you do not focus on an area, perks placed in that area are basically wasted points.

What I have heard, bearing in mind that there is still some disagreement to be found, is that Destruction as a primary focus requires a great deal of investment to reach its potential (not only in perks, but also in enchantments for Magicka discounts) but also runs into serious scaling issues somewhere in the level 40-50 range, after which it falls off relative to the damage output of weapons (assuming those weapons are also forged and enchanted to reasonable levels).

However, I know a lot of players who are enjoying Destruction at the upper levels. I got bored with it and went down Conjuration and 1Hers, myself, so I don't know. I have heard that Storm Atronach + Chain Lightning is a pretty awesome combination.

I can't speak to the scaling problems with Destruction spells, but at l level 31, I have a Legendary Daedric Sword which has a base damage of 59 before the extra 80% from perks (My one-handed skill isn't quite high enough for 100%) and a 30% (out of a possible 45%) critical strike chance. I have no fear of purely physical attacks right now (450 health helps). I'm not a big fan of fighting enemies who use frost damage spells though (grrr....).

I'm not sure I should be doing the Mage's College quest chain in full plate and sword-n-board, but, meh, whatever.

I'm levelling up with my magey (A High Elf Thalmoor wooooo, for that matter) and I keep wondering about quests, whether I got them all - I'm also vexed by the easter eggs I may have missed and the ENDLESS TRAVEL

Also, destruction magic can be awkwardddd

Targeting in general is awful. -_- I've had a few moments of reloading a save because I accidentally smacked a follower too much and pissed them off, or accidentally killed a "friendly" and got everyone after me, since there's no way to tell, etc...

I went the heavy armor plus shield plus one-handed weapon juggernaut route. I maxed Blacksmithing as soon as my finances allowed. I have a full set of Dragon Plate armor except for a shield, and a few heavy armor perks. The only thing that does noticeable damage to me is spells (and only then from boss type NPC's... Mordekai, fuck that guy). I don't know how much damage I'm doing with my legendary Draedric Sword, but it's not insignificant from the one-handed perks.

I was thinking of doing the same thing for my next play through (wizard imperial type)... but the Star Wars MMO might compete for my play time. =/

I'm going this route too. I just don't like to overthink my games. Big armor, good shield, good weapon. yeah that suffices.

Thing is, my heavy armor doesn't go as fast as I'd like, since I'm not too shabby with my shield and my elven mace of godly destruction and what not do a nifty job at keeping hits on me quite low.

Find some wolves or archers and let them beat on you. You can probably heal through the damage with your starter healing spell or minor healing potions.

I should have taken a photo of how I left my M2 clicked under a DVD's tower blocking arrows from a poor lil' bandit.

Got block to 100, while I slept. (and heavy armor to 92)
I'm an addict? or that's just time optimization?

PS: should I do the same with two weapons equipped, that raises one handed because of blocking with them?

You can't block *at all* with two weapons equipped.

But even if you've got a one-hander and a free hand, or a two-hander, blocking with them trains block. You must attack to train the attack skill, and you must attack a real enemy. No punching training dummies.

One-handed weapons first perk on 5/5 that doubles your damage... man that's rad...

With a fork.

(I have a little "museum" in my house in Windhelm. This is the kind of place where if an intruder broke in, they would take one look around, write out a note of apology, and leave quietly, because the kind of person who could have all these things is not anyone you would ever want to steal from. Anyway, going up the stairs to the second floor, there is a pair of Daedric Artifacts crossed behind The Shield Of Ysgramor. In a display case in front of them is Wuuthrad, the legendary axe of Ysgramor, and The Soup Spoon Of Ysgramor. Because I put ALL THREE relics in one place!)

Not only is the gameplay good, but ive been playing with the physics of the game, including the old console trick of noclip, and freezing a large dragon in midair.

if you do this to a creature on a very steep incline, its hillarious as they go bouncing all over the god damned map.

game is great i havent said anything because im too busy gaming, and when im not gaming, im too busy figuring out what im going to go game on next :P

as an addict.... you are not alone.. mine covers pc and console's (all)
its bad enough that we already have a list waiting for us to catch up with..

skyward sword
dark souls (huge demon souls fan)
arkham city
uncharted 3
the new alan wake that was teased
syndicate reboot (im an old fan of the older bullfrog ones)
the list continues... its going to be a very poor christmas, but thats okay, because the girlfriend loves to play the same games :)

the homer bowling ball trick works just fine for video games in my household...

It's more things like "I can't accept any followers because they complain I already have a follower. I do not have a follower".

Little things like that.

And, really, I'd spent a ton of hours playing sneak/shoot/sneak/shoot/sneak, and I'd finished the game. So I restarted going GRR ARGH SMASH WITH TWO HANDER and doing all the OTHER quests that I didn't get to the first time.

Well, there are actually relatively few prostitutes in the game, but you can make their heads explode with the power of your mind, set them on fire *while* chopping their heads off with an axe, sneak up and poison them, shoot them with arrows, lure dragons into town to bite them in half.... there are a great many new ways to kill everyone in the game.
