Date: 2012-01-17 03:23 pm (UTC)What it's doing is looking at raw armor value, and raw damage-to-the-face value, and comparing those to what you have equipped. So never mind your talents and being eleventyzillion points into the light armor tree and NONE in the heavy armor tree, it'll recommend Dwarven plate if it gives more raw armor value.
Which is pretty dumb, but happened to coincide with my interests for much of my first playthrough.
