Not quite. The Governor hasn't signed it yet, though she's promised to do so. There is also likely going to be a referendum petition to get it on the fall ballot, which would delay the effective date. Once all *that* nonsense is out of the way (with the striking of Prop 8 any referendum attempt should know it's going to die a Constitutional death) I have some number of gay couples for whom I'm looking forward to officiating.

The governor pushed the measure this year and threw her full support behind it, so unless she plans a "LOL FOOLED U" moment, she'll sign it.

Unfortunately it still has to get past that referendum foofrah - even if it doesn't actually go to a referendum because of the constitutional problems, all the arguing about that is going to hang things up. :(

I can't help but notice that the people who keep insisting that the state government should concern itself with more important things, like the economy, are the SAME PEOPLE who are pushing for a referendum. It's like living in a Tim Eyman echo chamber and I'm thinking of turning off the Internet and not leaving the house except for work until November. :/

I do hope to have some wedding invitations to look forward to at the end of it all, though.

You can always tell someone who reads Pratchet. I said the same thing when I posted this story.
