Thanks; still can't find any reference to UDF 423 as any kind of unknown physics, unfortunately. RationalWiki thinks it's outright bogus, but with no rationale. Oddly enough Yahoo Answers (UK, at least) gives some rationale.
In case people don't know, this is the Hubble Ultra-Deep Field (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Ultra-Deep_Field), which is a follow-up to the 1995 Hubble Deep Field (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Deep_Field) (and for hipsters, there's also the lesser know Hubble Deep Field South (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Deep_Field_South)). Here's video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAVjF_7ensg) giving a bit of context on the HDF experiment, finishing with a nifty animation using the galaxies' redshifts to give you a short 3D flythrough.
