I believe the middle ages in Europe was full of inventive ways to publically execute people as slowly and painfully as possible. To keep the population amused, criminals to be executed were imported by towns where the population was too law-abiding to provide a steady supply of family-friendly entertainment. Thus, humanity has been there, done that, and is just a whisker away from doing it all over again.

This country has gone fucking insane. I mean, it's been crazy, but this spring has just been unfathomable.

I think it's more correct to say it's always been insane, but the sane ones have less power to stop it.

That first one is Phoenix, Arizona. The batshit crazy out here regularly makes me want to gouge my eyes out.

(Edit: Case in point: Our legislature wants to make it legal for an employer to fire a woman for taking birth control (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/14/arizona-birth-control-bill-contraception-medical-reasons_n_1344557.html).)

I think that's the bill that even John McCain said was a bad idea.
