Because posting links to http: //e-apraksina.com/ is Not Allowed due to livejournal being idiots who don't understand how the internet works, I'm trying to figure out exactly what their filter is.

Hmm, breaking the link with a space works. What about with a www? That works! And the link rewrites to the correct link seamlessly at the far end.

(EDIT: WORKING link removed because livejournal abuse are apparently the kind of stupid assholes who ban *links*. Which means they're the kind of stupid assholes who might ban, say, me, for demonstrating that their idiotic luddite linkban doesn't even work while posting a banned link.)

I've been off-line for a few months ... why was she banned?

Complaints of copyright violation. Once banned, she moved to her own domain, which had an RSS feed - and then livejournal banned the RSS feed. Now, they're banning *links* to her website.

Seriously, try posting that URL from the first line, without breaking it with a space the way I did. You'll get a "we're sorry, there is a problem with your content" error message. You get the same if you try to link to deadline dot com, but THAT one came about because deadline threatened to sue livejournal because people were posting links to their site - it was unbelievably asinine, but it was deadline's idiocy.

Thanks for the reply - it's a shame because she posts some really interesting images ...

I post many of my images on various sites and I don't give a hoot if people re-post them ... I think that if people post their own material to the internet they must expect it to be reused ... I do agree that posting someone else's material as your own, or, using it for commercial purposes is wrong ...

Thanks again

There's ALL KINDS of legal issues with rehosting content even if you don't claim it as your own, and ALL KINDS of technical issues with hotlinking content. In fact, just about the only legally-and-technically-sound thing to do is to provide a link to the owner hosting the content themselves.... which, of course, livejournal has just banned.

(But seriously: Linkrot! Hosting expenses! The Slashdot effect! Argh!)

Day-um! I have half a mind to post that url. Unfortunately, getting banned from LJ would wreck a lot of the fun I have on the net. LJ might be the walking dead, but like that character at the end of Shawn of the Dead, it's still fun to be around when it isn't trying to bite you. X^D

It's inelegant, but a link-shortening service would probably be a nigh-invulnerable end run around LJ's link nazis. Unless they lock out all of bit.ly and tinyurl, of course.

I'm finally getting around to Skyrim, do you have any opinions on must-have mods?

You mean beyond Accurate Horse Genitalia Because Skyrim Mod Makers Know What Is Really Important In Life?

(Seriously, I found the "give accurate genitalia to the horses" mod yesterday.)

Serious answer: Uh.... I mostly don't remember which mods I was using. I have Sworn Off Skyrim Completely after 200+ hours ate my life for months. I drop into SteamForge every once in a while and surf through most popular/most installed/highest rated and tag ones that look cool, but I'm not restarting the game until there's DLC.

Give me a few hours to get home, I'll check what I was using and get back to you.

I remember SkyUI was the first and most important one - because I'm not cramped until a fucking 6-button controller, why would I want a UI that expects a controller! - and I was also running with high-res pack, expanded FOV, rich merchants, detailed map with coloured map icons, and a couple of other things....

No rush. And yeah, I had some kind of font-messer-arounder for Fallout 3 so dialog boxes had more than three lines of text in them.

I use a fairly small selection personally, but it is this:

Sky UI (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863) - this radically changes the menus and inventory etc in the UI.. makes it much, much better. A little bit more of a hassle to use than the other mods, though.

Realistic Lighting with Customization (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=7654) This is a mod that changes the lighting and mood of the game - I use the setting that makes it super-gloomy, realistically dark in dark places and at night, and makes Skyrim a much more stormy, horrible-weather sort of province. Because I like stalking dragons in blizzards, apparently.

Quality World Map (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4929) (there may be better map mods, this one basically just adds roads.. something the main map is sorely missing)

Disable Auto-Aim (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12902) - what it says on the tin - it makes arrows go where they should go.

Sexy *Cities (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12308) This is a link to one in a set of packs that make the cities and villages more fancy-looking. There are other, more complete texture packs around, but I haven't used any of them yet.

I second Sky UI, Quality World Map, and Disable Auto-Aim as universal constants that should have been part of the original game damnit (auto-aim being an option, obs - but a rather essential one and an easy damn checkbox to implement).

Until SkyUI gets the favorites menu done, I also strongly recommend Categorized Favorites Menu

For personal favorites, I highly recommend the Sounds of Skyrim mods, and Hi-Rez Legible Road Signs, because they put road signs in the damn game and you can't damn well read them what the hell is up with THAT?

Ahem.

I also recommend Realistic Ragdolls and Force - you don't notice at lower levels, but at higher levels you throw crap around like you're a home-run champion and they're super-balls.

I almost forgot THE MOST IMPORTANT MOD (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=5518)

I seriously play with that one enabled. It's AWESOME. It's almost as good as my "replace all the Infected in Left4Dead2 with Macho Man Randy Savage" mod[1].

[1]: Get that one (http://www.moddb.com/addons/left-4-dead-randy-savage-infected-sound-mod) here. It's an awesome one! The "horde coming" sound is now an awesome echo-y "BONE-SAW IS READY" that bounces off all the buildings....
