.... This is exactly the sort of thing that I dread having to one day try to explain to my kids.

"Papa, what the hell is this?"

"Well, it's a comedic interpretation of a famous painting by Goya. See, there's a Greek god, Cronus, that the Romans rebadged as Saturn, and he..."

"Papa, I know Saturn Devouring His Children - we went to the Goya museum last year, remember? What's the ... thing... in the painting, and why is there a kitty?"

"Ah, well, in the 80s, there was this sitcom starring a Muppet knock-off, called ALF, which supposedly stood for Alien Life Form, and this Alf character had a shtick where he always was trying to eat the family cat..."

"Last century was weird."

"*sigh* I know, dear. I know."

What I wonder is if he ever actually ate a cat or not, and if he hadn't, how he knew he liked eating cats.

Cats were standard food on Melmac. Alf ate them regularly, back home. On earth, despite there being lots of cats, nobody would let him eat one.
