And that remained the law until the supreme court decided Loving vs. Virginia in 1967.

I wouldn't have to vote for the athiest, but I'd definitely vote for someone who was athier than they are.

The blog was going to be called "thehighlander", but it would have drawn too much attention.

Yep. Expect this one to stick around until it's outlawed by the federal government, as well.

That's how all "state's rights" issues go.

Yes. "State's rights" advocates hate this, unless it pertains to marijuana decriminalization, single-payer healthcare, or anything that isn't absolutely pigheaded. Then they're all about the federal government.

"State's Rights" is a dogwhistle for "racism". Nobody who uses the term truly cares about anything except the "State's right" to enforce lesser status of minorities.

No, really.

(jeff is an uber-libertarian who uses terms like "states rights" with utter sincerity in cases like this)

"State's rights" is a dogwhistle term that means "speaker is bigoted fuckwit".

Oh, and look, Jeff there manages it just a few comments later, with "You assume those against gay marriage are automatically hateful or bigoted. They're not."

I mean, hell, he's been all Concern Troll "well if all those dirty homos would just stay in the closet forever and never admint to being gay then progress would happen faster because invisible nonexistent cocksuckers scare me less" before that, but he appears to adhere to the "more words, deeper hole" theory if you just poke him a little.

Yeah, that's his schtick. He's always surprised when people call him racist or corporatist. He's gotten so bad we're wondering if he's actually a long-form troll.

Did they say "forever prohibited"? I don't think that word means what they think it means.

It shows they knew at the time that they were opposed to the flow of history, I think, and hence that they were going to lose eventually.
