Portal 2, $6.80. Portal 1+2, $8.50. Skyrim, $40.

These are damn good prices, is what I'm saying. Skyrim is still pretty hefty, but a game this popular is going to stay expensive for a while yet. $40 is as cheap as it will get before July, likely as cheap as it will get before Christmas. Portal.... well, if you know *anyone* who doesn't own Portal, who has a computer and can play first-person games without motion sickness? Buy them Portal. It is genuinely one of the best games EVER made, suitable for anyone from casual gamers to puzzle games to twitch gamers and playable by all.

I gave up on Portal because it really needs a mouse and I can't use a mouse (not for long enough to play an entire game). I would love to play it though (SO currently purchasing 2).

thumb sticks?

Maybe a 360 controller would help you out?

IAWTC, I beat Portal 1 with a 360 pad, didn't find any problems. YMMV depending on how comfortable you are with the 360 pad, though.

I don't see the 1+2 deal (though I already have 1, so I only need 2 via Steam, unless the fact that I have the PS3 disk can somehow magically provide me with PC access via Steam?)

nm, found the 1+2.

I bought the PS3 version just so I could play it on the PC via Steam too!

I got Portal 2 for PS3 for my birthday last December, and just bought it via Steam for PC. I don't even know if one would allow me to play on the other or not, but at "free for PS3 'cause it was a gift" + "cheap for PC via Steam", I figure I can't go wrong anyhow, unless there's some way I can share my progress between them. :)

I downloaded some of the "Day One" content they released with the Testing Initiative, and was subsequently disappointed when I realised that the fantastic levels I had been playing (and highly enjoying) were only able to be made with the Hammer editor. The in-game Portal Test Chamber editor is, by comparison, extremely basic. That said, I'm sure some really fantastic puzzles will be made with it, and I do look forward to playing those.

Steam trying to make a few more dollars before Diablo 3 goes live.

Yeah, holding a sale through Steam is very much out of character behavior for Valve. Does rather smack of desperation.

I know Steam holds sales all the time. I've bought several games that were on sale through Steam. I know Valve wouldn't admit to the impending release influencing this decision, but I would bet it did, especially as it pertains to the drop in Skyrim's cost.

I am one of the very few who care for Portal. Just wasn't my thing. Loved the concept, but would have liked to have had more story than "Go to Room A. Solve Puzzle 1. Proceed to Room B. Solve Puzzle 2."

There is considerably more story than that, if you keep going.

Also, there is cake.

I got all the way through Portal. Like I said, there just wasn't enough story for me - and when I say that, I mean story that I, as the player, got to interact with and create.

Ah, that's a reasonable reaction. There's deeper background in Portal 2, but it's similar to Portal 1 in that you're unlocking the story, not directing it; so if you didn't like the one, you probably wouldn't like the other.

I did try Portal 2, but quickly gave up - and yep, that's it exactly, insofar as unlocking the story versus interacting with it.
