Technically, gaslight would also be linked to breast cancer. Or rigorous candle use. The point is artificial lighting, which disrupts the natural circadian rhythms we evolved by having us not go to bed with the dropping of the sun, may be one of the causes of increased cancer rates.

So, it's not the electricity, it's the weird nocturnal glow, man!

Oh, for criminy's sake...

My Mom's theory is blaming the surge of cases in her generation on the first birth control pills, which were great big honkin' overdoses of horomones before they settled down and re-regulated. Which would make sense to me, both medically and timing-wise. But they won't look into that, since lightbulbs make so much more sense. *facepalm*

Although, hell, I really shouldn't argue. If this BS gets widely accepted, I could theoretically demand to have working hours in the afternoon/evening (since my circadian rhythm is nocturnal). After all, they couldn't refue me or I'd be at risk of cancer! That's descrimination! etc. etc. :P

They're looking into the hormone thing. It's just that's boring, whereas the lighting thing is Weird And Interesting, and therefore makes better news.

What she said. Besides, even the guy looking at this says it's a correlation, not a causation.

True enough. I suppose it's the Science & Health equivalent of Bat Boy. ;)

Heh. Not quite, since he's not making this up completely out of his ass.

More like classifying "food" as an addictive substance, I'd say.
