Okay, the first two are Chrome and Firefox, but I don't recognize the next two symbols.

Opera's awesome out of the box-I use Firefox for the addons and similar, but I know a lot of web pros who use Opera for their personal browsing-it was them that first did stuff like tabs and similar. Plus they do bespoke browsers for various things, proper functioning browsers on mobile phones running on J2ME platforms years ago, for example.

Why not just stop supporting IE7?

#1: Because turning away 3% of their customers outright seemed like a bad idea.
#2: Because they'd already DONE all the IE7 work, and it was on review that they realised IE7 took as much time as everything else combined.

It's bizarre that they don't link to the IE update site. IE9 is a solid browser, and one that people who prefer IE should upgrade to.

Linking Safari instead is practically criminal negligence.

IE9 doesn't run on XP. Granted XP is end of lifed or close to it, but some people are stubborn about not upgrading or can't afford to.

XP hits End Of Life in April 2014.

But you're right, it can't run 9, and 8 is better-but-not-good.

Telling people you're charging them more is just going to drive them away. Since you're already detecting the browser just transparently increase all the prices by 3%.

There are probably some legal reasons why that's a very very bad idea.

Get around price discrimination like the gas stations do, raise all your prices by 3% and give a 3% discount for not using IE.

It pisses me off when websites will let me get about halfway through whatever form/purchase I am filling out, and errors out, telling me I HAVE to use IE. WTF.
