Remember how I said Reaper Minis was doing Kickstarter right? With 5 days left, they've got 5500 backers and more than a million dollars. Yes, that means the average pledge is about two hundred. For bonus points, 4789 of those 5510 backers are at the $100 level.

For that $100, you get about 150 183 and counting miniatures. And then you unlock the ability to get more (and carrying cases, and paints, and, and, and...) for a small additional fee. And each milestone adds more freebies and a new option for a small additional pledge. And all pledge levels and milestones and all the rest are modular.

This is Kickstarter *CRACK*, with every new milestone gives you something new and cool just for being there, and also the option of something ELSE new and cool for just a leeeeeeetle more.

Seriously, this is very well done. It manipulates the Kickstarter model perfectly and also appears to be a damn good deal if you like painting teeny little things.

I'd be much more tempted if I didn't already have double-digit boxes of models and figures yet to paint, but yes Reaper really set up their Kickstarter well.

It *is* a damn good deal, vs buying the miniatures retail. Right now it's at $0.55 (all in USD) per mini for the vampire level. They've stated these will retail $2-$4 in stores/online after the KS. The optionals vary quite a bit in terms of how far below retail the KS price is, as they've stated the plastic prices will be about 1/3 of the metal miniature cost--so the $10 dragons will retail for $23 or thereabouts, and the two pack of dragons for $15 should retail for $20 after the KS ($10 each, in that case).

Yeah, I'm in it for the dragons. Though the entertainment value has been surprisingly high, watching the pledges increase and waiting to see what new goodies we get next. Still hoping for halflings.

They've really done an amazing job with this. Good on them for figuring out the best way to use the Kickstarter model and to keep supporters interested and invested!

The roommate is buying in at the Vampire level, mostly by getting me and several others to go in at $20 each. Plus whatever add-ons we want. I'm grabbing the Fire Giant royals cause female giants are hard to find...
