I think the brain is doing the right thing here.

Are you sure that the way the white line segments is the same with and without the yellow squares?

Yep - and I say that because I have a nifty brain that can "see" the lines continue to function independently, as well as "see" them as a group. :)

I just saw part of it. My problem was that I was looking for whether the right angle was maintained at a corner, and the lines have stable directions, which probably a crucial part of the illusion. The trick is looking for distance between the lines.

The trick is to focus on the white lines in pairs (opposite sides of the square), moving together. Don't shift your focus when the yellow squares are added, and you should (hopefuly) be able to see the lines are still moving in the same way as before, then refocus and see the illusion too.

I had to work really hard to get the illusion to click like it was intended to click, not sure why.

The diamond rotates clockwise for me once the yellow squares are applied. Does it go counter-clockwise for any of you?

I'm usually quite good at getting my brain to swap which direction it perceives the illusion is turning, when it's this kind of illusion, but I'm struggling with this one.

Odd - after the overlay was lifted the first time, I could get my brain to switch between the two interpretations when it was put back. Although not when it's in my peripheral vision, apparently...
