Knees are just poorly designed.

(Still, next-day doctor's appointment made after business hours the night before, bucket of industrial-strength painkillers, and parking: $9 total. And I can fill out a form to get $5 of that (the prescription fee) back if I really want to. Oh, save me from this socialist hellhole.)

Yay, forms!

(I'm just supporting this socialist hellhole all over the place, I am.)

Hope you feel better soon, though. Sorry to hear you needed the industrial-strength painkillers in the first place.

My knees have been falling off since a certain dog-and-zombies incident last week. They just haven't gotten BETTER since then, so I had the doctor take a look and determine "Yup, nothing to do but wait more time and take better painkillers".

I forget where I read it, but I remember someone voicing the opinion that the human knee was one of the best arguments against "Intelligent Design" they'd ever seen.

I like the human eye for that, with the spine and the air/food crossover as seconds - but yes, knees are ALSO evidence that any responsible designer was objectively incompetent.

And then of course there's Neil DeGrasse Tyson's "entertainment complex in the middle of a sewage system" example...

Pretty sure that joke was around well before NDT - for example, my Grandfather (a civil engineer) would use it as definitive proof that God was also a civil engineer.

ETA: Also, my favourite example is wisdom teeth.

An electrical, mechanical, and civil engineer were arguing over what kind of engineer god was. The electrical engineer pointed at the marvel that is the nervous system and its intricate pathways; the mechanical engineer was lauding the musculoskeletal structure as the ultimate design; the civil engineer looks at both of them and says "get over it, who else would run a toxic waste pipe through a recreational zone"?

The concept if not the phrasing predates him, since the line from Yeats about how "Love has pitched his mansion in / The place of excrement" dates from 1933 and I am going quietly crazy trying to remember where else I've seen it.

I keep wanting to say Donne, and am sure that's not right.

My favourite are hiccups, which are theorised to be an ancient reflex for flushing your water-breathing gills. What, you don't have gills? Darn that terrestrial evolutionary adaption.

That one gets even funnier with giraffes. It made perfect sense when it was just part of the gill structure on the head but now...

Then there's the problem of even minor swelling of the brain causing it to block the spinal canal, the nightmare sinus cavity, and wisdom teeth, and we haven't even left the head yet.

Why, that might just be outright treason. A matter for Homeland Security at the very least!
