Indeed he could, if he chose to do so. But he doesn't have to. I probably over-reacted to the comment a bit. I'm a bit sensitive to spacecraft engineers being told they "have" to look a certain way, recently.

I viewed it as a more metaphorical sense of "has to" -- i.e., "it would be supremely awesome if this were to occur".

As I recall, Bobak actually polls his coworkers how he should do his hair for a given upcoming launch, so he might well like an idea like this. :D
