The news is telling me that Romney had declared that he hadn't written a concession speech in advance.

Seriously?

I mean, he was going to lose anyway, but that GUARANTEED it. The wrath of the whatever, from high atop the thing, is not mocked.

Right? Toby Zeigler said that he wrote two tweets for the evening, because of course he did.

Tempting fate, Mitt. Tempting. Fate.

Suggesting that you're sure to win is the easiest way to make Josh and Toby yell at you.

If that's true*, I'll say this for the man -- he's a master at speaking off the cuff. (Admittedly, I'm told this came to light in the debates, which I didn't watch, whereas Obama is a masterful extemporaneous speaker but fumbles improv.)

* Maybe, maybe not, doesn't much matter.

He likely wrote it in the hours before, after it was evident he would lose and before he conceded

But before the polls closed, he said he hadn't written one.

't'would be foolish to have nothing prepared, in the eventuality, because as noted, wrath/mockery. (Hell, newspapers prepare two entire editions for this sort of thing, needing only tweaks before press.)

I'm pretty sure it would have been a truthful statement for him to also have said that he hadn't written an acceptance speech, either.

Or any of the other speeches he's delivered in the past year, for that matter.

Why would you trust anything Mitt Romney says to be the truth? I assume he did, in fact, have a concession speech ready, he just didn't want to say so.

It's not the truthfulness of the statement that matters. The wrath of the whatever, from high atop the thing, cares only that the statement was made and he did not go outside, turn around three times, curse, and spit.
