Lost Girl is cheesy, low-budget, questionably-acted urban fantasy with what are often terrible characters and worse plotlines. I still watch it in binges because Kenzi is amazing and hilarious and also there are pretty people getting naked.
Lost Girl is written by people who saw a lot of Buffy, or played a lot of WOD, and thought it was awesome wicked cool, but have no idea how to write plot.
Which is a shame, because the character stuff is frequently good fun, but the show slips into idiot plot far too often, with characters choosing their plot-related actions based on whether they move them into the right place for the arc-plot, not because you could actually ever see them choosing to do so.
Season 1 was watchable, intermittently fun, cheese, the second half of season 2 degenerated to the point where I was only watching it because Julie was addicted.

Well, yeah, but no-one so far seems to be claiming Lost Girl is high art, just fun. And the last time we grabbed a show that was "like Buffy except..." it worked out, you know?
SyFy UK tried to trail Lost Girl as being the next big thing and totally serious, which was unfortunate because they're normally quite good at signalling the silly, I watched most of the first series and gave up, I don't have enough TV time to just watch it for the pretty.
I'd rather watch Todd or Continuum. Or Eureka reruns. Shame though, the characters have potential and the setting, while very much fairy-shagging-noir, is at least vaguely interesting. Just, y'know, the plot wasn't just bad, it was nonsensicial.
Continuum is awesome. And Canadian, yet none of my Canadian friends seem to know of it-the lead played Kirk's Orion girlfriend in the recent Trek movie, terrorists escape execution using a time travel device to come back to the present day, and future cop "protector" jumps into the time travel field having no clue what it actually is to chase them. Given the lowish budget, it's incredibly impressive overall and we've really enjoyed the first series.
No it's more like Hex but better written* and american.
The main character is a succubus, but because she's a succubus there's a faint chance that if she likes someone too much she'll vagina them to death, which is bad because she's totally got a thing for a werewolf cop and so there's an actual inbuilt story reason for the UST, and then you have comedy relief sidekick Kenzi who is genuinely funny.
I question whether the second season of Hex was written. I think they just got someone to eat a dictionary and then made them vomit - and behold the scripts were produced
Actually, I think it may have been the actress who played Ella who did the script eating, since she spent the entire season incapacitated and looking ill or cowering
I tried watching it, but it was just so bad, i couldn't get more than a couple episodes in. The girls are gorgeous and that one, especially, is adorable. But people here aren't kidding when they say it's badly written.
