On a related note, I really, really, really need a rent-a-kitten service, where I could call and place an order for two hours of kitten-snuggling and playing with tiny furballs. My stress levels are incredibly high and I could use some kitteh therapy for that.
Call your local animal shelter and find out if they accept volunteers. The SPCA where I grew up used to let you come in to socialize the cats and exercise the dogs for a couple hours at a time. Not quite the same as having a cuddly kitten at home, but still pretty good. I do think I had to fill out some paperwork to be accepted as a volunteer, but it was worth it. Just have to be careful not to bring anything home...
This is a good idea and I have to look into it, but it is also possible that my native land's animal shelters do not operate quite that way. Still! Quest for Kittens continues!
Fudge. I checked, and 1) the place is so far away, that I can't reach it reasonably without a car (which I don't have) and 2) apparently doesn't need volunteers (but donations are accepted).
