UK police demand DNA samples from gay men for use in "dangerous sex offender" registry.

Says the author: "Inadvertent cock-up or homophobic conspiracy?" - and my answer really has to be "and why can't it be both?"

cock up and conspiracy are not mutually exclusive. Nor is cock up and prejudice (and not giving a damn whether homophobic laws and ignorant policy will target gay men) - and it's not like the police has a good record of being respectful of gay men. Thankfully there was enough noise striking back for the police to beat a hasty retreat on this one in one case in Manchester (and lie through their back teeth about it as well)

But how many others will just cave? How many more are being swept up?

Because all I hear in the news is about the rampaging packs of fabulous gay rapists raping their way across the countryside.

or possibly cause cancer. Or even both. At the same time.

This is an issue in parts of Australia too - it doesn't involve compulsory DNA samples here, but men convicted of consensual sex acts decades ago still suffer consequences of a criminal record, like being unable to work with children.
