As an additional "fuck you!", the whole thing is filmed in front of books!

...

There's something deeply wrong where saying "hey, I read the product of our species' accumulated wisdom as we can best represent it" is partisan.

They didn't specify which God, which is about as much freedom as the Republicans are willing to allow.

Yeah, but you know if they heard someone used "So help me Allah", those same legislators would shit themselves in panic and fury.

Well there's always the FSM, at least. Shouldn't be needed, but I can say that about a lot of things.

At least I can take some solace in this morning's bookcase rearrangement that placed my bible in the mythology/classics section. :)

They have. That is why the only *legal* challenges to the bill that the article notes come from other religious interests:

"Jehovah’s witnesses, some Muslims and pacifist Quakers have in the past challenged loyalty oaths imposed by the federal government and other agencies, saying they conflict with their beliefs and religious professions. Similarly, some Arizona students could challenge the proposed high school oath as a violation of their religious liberties and freedom of expression."

That's a rather heavily weighted 'similarly' in favour of religious liberties. We who are not claimed by religion may or may not be covered.

For that matter, even if you take out the "So Help Me God" bit, it still unreasonably assumes that high school graduates are US citizens. A Brit or German child could easily have spent a third of their life in the US and therefore graduate high school there, while still identifying as British or German, and having a very good reason not to swear to uphold a foreign country's Constitution.

I think you missed that this is ARIZONA. They do not, in fact, want any "foreigners" living there.

Well if you bring in some NOT-LOCALS, it will dilute that fine mix of LOCAL loony they got going, right?

"This is a LOCAL state for LOCAL people! There's nothing for you in here!"
