There's a pretty good chance most of these photos were taken on Rottnest Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rottnest_Island#Other_animals), where the quokkas are everywhere, and have no fear of humans.


I have friends who've camped there. Apparently the experience goes like this:
Day #1 - OMG, lookit the cyyyoooot liddle quokkas! OMG, there's another one! OMG, OMG, it's licking my hand OMG get a photo! Squee!.

Day #4 - IF I FIND ONE MORE FUCKING QUOKKA IN MY FOOD TENT I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL DROP KICK IT TO DARWIN!

the second one certainly was - the soil on Rottnest is quite distinctive
