So, in the last version or so of Thunderbird, there's a new behaviour.

When focus leaves the thunderbird window, the menus and buttons dim. They go grey.

This is annoying. I hate it. It's a sudden state change in a part of the screen I wasn't looking at *by definition*, drawing my attention towards the irrelevant bits and away from whatever I was doing to cause me to, y'know, SWITCH TO SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE MAIN THUNDERBIRD WINDOW.

So I looked through the settings, and don't see it. Googled the dimming thing, didn't find anything. Even checked the advanced config for words like "focus" and "dim". No luck.

Help me, lazyweb? How to I reverse the annoying and stupid UI change?

Another theme maybe?

Is there another "plain grey, no graphics, no animations" theme to try?

LittleFox is a minimal and memory-saving theme for Firefox that used to work on thunderbird as well. Alas, I can't find that link right now...

Well, that works, and eliminates the annoying behaviour, but DEAR GOD THAT'S HIDEOUS. It's like Windows 95 at 1920x1080.

Still, it might be acceptable, and finding out that it's DEFINITELY a rogue theme element doing it is really useful! Thanks!

It's useful on machines that have limited desktop realestate. Yeah, it's pretty Atari, but at least it gets the job done. ^_^

20 minutes of looking has led me to conclude that Thunderbird Themes are like Livejournal S2 styles: All of them are horrible and wrong and cannot be made usable. Ick.

(Now I have to get back to work but I mean, eww, all of the "most popular" and "highest rated" themes are just yuck. Flashy! Distracting! Cutesy! Icons with indistinct edges! Icons that look identical to one another of first glance! Agh!)

Well, you could use Icedove instead, which is so far behind that it'll take another decade until this particular annoyance makes it in.

They're releasing new versions of Thunderbird? Or at least the theme?

Same 6-week schedule that Firefox is on.

I thought they'd stuck it on a shelf and forgotten about it (except for security patches).

Its a schedule? I just assumed that whenever chrome did anything, mozilla copied it into firefox and incremented the number.
