If you like Regal Theatres, you're wrong. You should not go there. They're jackasses who hate you personally and you in general.

We here in Canada do not have Regal Theatres. But the point stands.

"Peter Bensen, the top accountant for McDonald’s, said that Obamacare will cost the company $120-$420 million a year to provide benefits previously denied to its workers. And since that is the only thing Bensen is looking at, that is the only thing Bensen sees. He hasn’t looked at — or even imagined the possibility of — the ways in which Obamacare will benefit McDonald’s customers. He is an accountant, not an economist, so he has forgotten that what’s good for McDonald’s customers is good for McDonald’s."

I am aware, for the record, of the irony inherent in linking to Fred Clark's LJ-feed while refusing to link to his Pay Theos blog. But, as long as RSS exists, I am happy to link you to a smart man saying smart things without also providing ad revenue to his creationist parasite. And, in doing so, I give you the content of the smart man saying smart things, while denying nourishment to his creationist parasite. So there's that.

Not to mention if their employees have access to health care they will probably take fewer sick days, and will pass on less bugs to customers. Though with the turnover in the fast food industry I'm not sure whether it's a significant effect.

Yeah, LJ's RSS links rot away after a month or so, and I don't normally like linking directly to Fred's new place because they're creationists and he's too good for them, and I don't want them making ad/view money off me and my readers.

But here's the post (http://www.patheos.com/blogs/slacktivist/2013/04/24/dear-regal-theaters-its-the-customers-stupid/). Short version: Regal Theatres objects to providing basic benefits to their workers SO MUCH, they're cutting all non-management to part time so they don't legally have to pay them.

Fred points out that this is stupid for many reasons, not the least of which is that Regal is cutting pay and increasing expenses in a way that will cause their employees to not be able to afford their services. They're a movie theatre company, making sure that their employees are too poor to go to the movies, and joining with other employers to ensure that none of their employees have the free income to use any of their services.

Which is to say: In addition to the moral element, their hamstringing their own customer base, deliberately, actively.
