Reddit is already absolving themselves of responsibility.

It seems strange to blame a giant social media website, involving millions of members, for the accusations of a much smaller group on said website. It'd be like blaming all LJers for something certain other LJers have said.

Livejournal has a very different setup as far as community. Reddit is set up to promote groupthink.

How so? I've definitely seen groupthink in LJ communities. But perhaps I'm using that term differently than you are.

the voting system is an evil that does a lot of the work towards making reddit the first website on the internet made up entirely of youtube comments.

Perhaps not, but they are a silent majority that enables the vocal minority to get away with bloody murder. (Metaphorically speaking.)

This is the same argument that I hear religious people use when discussing radicalized members of their faith. "Not all [Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews] are like that!" Well sure, but there's enough of 'em to make you all look like chumps.

Well, he's been missing for more than a month, and they needed dental records to identify him. It sounds probable that he's been dead since March. So Reddit might be off the hook for culpability in his death. This time.

I feel for his family. What a terrible, terrible week for them: first the false accusations and media storm, now confirmation that he's deceased. I'm glad they'll have closure now, though... I think it's better to have found his body than for his loved ones to never know what happened to him. Given the state of the body, it sounds like he went straight out of his apartment and jumped in the river back in March, when he was first reported missing. Poor guy.
