Meant to post this Tuesday, didn't.

So! Week 2 of Local Vegetables From A Box.

Left to right, those are:
One normal cucumber, 3 Lebanese cucumbers, green onions, orange pepper, yellow pepper, asparagus, chives, radishes, "spring mix" salad (in the baggie at the back), a head of spinach, and 3 tomatoes. In front, low-sugar strawberry jam.

Leftover from last week: the head of spinach, one tomato, one bundle of asparagus. All still edible and We Have Plans For Those.

Went bad before being used: Some of the chives, but that's because we didn't store them well, and that was only about 10% of the bundle. We ate the rest.

So far, so good!

You're contractually obliged to make bacon-wrapped asparagus. *hypnotoad*

Boil asparagus, peel; cut to manageable chunks (which means "eat the tip section and some stalk"), wrap bacon around this part and fry on a pan. Eat. Enjoy. :D

I've got trays for grilling veggies on the barbecue. I'm thinking wrap whole spears in bacon, roast next to skewers of onion, pepper, cherry tomato, and chicken. Possibly bacon-wrapped chicken.

Excellent plan.

Get bacon. Get plenty of bacon.

Also, for spinach, try this delishoosh thing.

Maxwell House coffee?

Is there a weird Canadian variant that they don't sell over here that doesn't taste bloody awful then?

You appear to get a better mis than the two different veg box suppliers we've tried, ended up going back to buying stuff in town each time, we always ended up with weird mises and lots of potatoes of indeterminate variety.

It's medium-roast coffee. It, like all other medium-roast coffee, tastes like medium-roast coffee.

(I am continually suspicious that people who claim to be able to tell the difference in coffee grounds are putting me on. Brew methods, sure. Relative amount of grounds to water, sure. "These beans taste different!" yeah no, they don't. It's coffee. It's coffee-flavoured and tastes like coffee.)

I can tell some differences, but nowhere near as many as some others do-it's partially related to various senses, same as wine. I can't tell the differences between wines at all, but I'm severely anosmic which means I can't smell them at all. But I do have a good sense of taste, which means some coffee differences are noticeable.

I prefer a rich roast myself, and there are palpable differences between different rich roast instants on the market here, they're all tolerable but Kenco's, to me, gives the best cost/taste mix (there are better, but they're a lot more expensive).

But, over here, Maxwell House is basically a bottom-of-the-market brand that doesn't really do sub specialisation like "medium roast"

And a quick lookup as I typed this reveals that Kenco is a Kraft brand, as is Carte Noire, both of which are perfectly adequate. So we drink the same coffee, but with different labels. Plus ca change...

Ah, see, an even bigger difference, they don't sell it as non-instant and I don't think they ever have, it didn't even occur to me it was anything other than that due to brand association.

Been looking things up, and yeah, Kraft bought the Kenyan Coffee Company when they broke into the UK market and sell that almost exclusively over here, MH is a very lowend brand.

And I only use instant for the above mentioned anosmia thing, above a certain quality level I can't tell much difference, a reasonable instant is as good as and as easy as ground coffee right up to a very expensive bean-I can tell a difference between Guatemala Elephant and what I drink, but not enough to justify the massive amount of extra time and money...
