My Mom is in her 70s. She stumped for Obama and volunteers for the League of Women Voters in Florida. She recently said about politics "We're all just pawns for the wealthy." this wasn't resignation, smug cynicism or paranoid anti-government - she's still fighting for voters rights in Florida - just a calm recognition of the bullshit. It's weird because my parents give off a middle class, apple pie, America air, they worked hard and are now secure in their retirement, etc. and are believers in social responsibility. But there's no respect for The System as it currently stands. My dad went from no indoor plumbing to corporate success, but his advice to me upon graduation was, "Remember, Business has no loyalty to anything but its own profits." This is surprising every time, because it's hard to think of my parents as quietly radical as they were pretty good with that Responsible Adult act when I was a kid. My point being, for some reason this post reminded me that they would read this and be as disgusted as I am, and I'm glad about that, but I realize they'd be less shocked than I am.

Yep., My sis had a job that paid this way. It made it easier for her to deal with the fact she can't open a bank account (she got hit with identity theft when she was a teen, now banks see check fraud on her credit and don't actually go to the work to see it was resolved and she was innocent)

Unfortunatly while this makes it easier to pay bills, it costs her a fortune.
