As they got the $20K, it's debatable as to how stupid the fraudulent assholes are.

Fools and their money are soon parted

While we are suppose to feel bad about those "poor" people who apparently had money to spend on this, we're really just annoyed someone's gotten ahead again.

Edit: at least I am. I am nowhere near any lawful alignment to feel sympathy.

And for how long have other forms of predatory quackery been legitimised/protected/funded/eagerly patronised? No change there, I'm afraid.

Actually, I'm not sure that the fraud is conscious - at least, not on the inventor's part. He sounds like a typical victim of the Dunning-Kruger Effect, believing that expertise in one narrow field (electronics and electrical engineering) makes him equally expert in a vaguely related field (quantum physics).
His partners, though..... Hmmmm. One of them - David Louis DeFebo - flogs something called Schweitzer Formula which is "a universal disinfectant which stops unhealthy germs in the body, but does not damage or kill the cells of the body." The other two who aren't his wife or daughter are typical New Age flake types. Guess which one of the three will disappear with the money once it turns out that the Quantum Energy Generator doesn't work?

I will bet you this adorable picture of a kitten that it is that one, with the caveat that he may not need to disappear.

Ugh. At least if the inventor is mistaken, he will find out soon enough? :s

Is this for victims of the fraud or can onlookers file as well?

17,341.44, but I take your point.

(I confess I am kind of wondering WTH this goes next. Cynical bets are on production of prototype, investor falling through, and life going on as before, but unless there is something I am unaware of, that seems like a lot of very public risk for very minimal reward?)
