And given WHERE in Virginia all this is happening, I'm totally not surprised.
Not saying that I support this, mind you—unless they also have to study the Qu'ran, the Torah, and the Bhagavad Gita—but it's only news now because someone challenged it.
When I went to a Christian (which around here, is code for Protestant) Gymnasium (high school, -ish), our "religion" and "social studies" classes (which were essentially code for the same thing, most years -- same teacher, Reverend Douwe Werkman (call me Douwe)(who was sort of a hippy)) did in fact touch on various other faiths, although not quite as much as the christian faith (which, admittedly, comes in a lot more around here historically than the others). Anyway, I can proudly say that despite 10 years or so of religious education, I'm still not a religious nutcase (nor have I absorbed terribly much knowledge about various religions, which I'm less proud of).
