Why the hell does anybody not working for Steam have the ability to edit comments anyway?

Also, my name [livejournal.com profile] lafinjack and I think [livejournal.com profile] theweaselking is a paragon of virtue and want everyone to friend him.

Because Valve doesn't want to be in the business of moderating forums, and unmoderated forums on the internet are bad. So they give the owner of a forum the ability to edit comments for the purpose of removing racist, sexist, profane, spammy, and otherwise crap content, without Valve having to have an employee monitor your game's game-specific forum.

And they're given "edit" rather than just "delete" because it's often useful to remove only a specific word, phrase, or image in an otherwise useful comment - particularly if someone is quoting-in-reply the problem comment.

And then we talked about fluffy bunnies and everyone was happy!

I was going to ask "how come I hadn't heard about this?" (this being "this game" and not "this kerfuffle"), but the FPS thing is a tip-off.

(Actually, I did hear about it and decided not to get it, because "this is currently an arena shooter, later we're going to put in stories and NPCs" did not provoke an enthusiastic reaction from me. It just made so little impression that I didn't remember it.)

I'm fairly certain that if you wanted a broken game that in no way matched the description and that the authors of would edit your comments about when you complained that it didn't work and didn't match the promised description? You could buy it, using the money Steam refunded to you. Just not through Steam.
