Shouldn't that be punishable by imprisonment?

Indeed, it is all kinds of illegal, if you can prove intent. The guy the CPC (non-communist) party left holding the bag when they got caught doing this in 2011 has just finished his trial - however, the verdict has specifically *not* been released prior to this election, to avoid the CPC (Federal version of the PC party) wrongdoing from tainting the PC (provincial CPC) election, under the laughable fiction that they're different parties. Whether the party's sacrifical scapegoat is found guilty or not, it's disruptive to the election.

Why is intent required? Shouldn't we punish ignorance as well?

No, to paraphrase other discussions "intent: it's fucking magic".

(No really it is. Intent makes all the difference in so many legal things. )

I am sitting right now in one of those ridings. Folks're kinda pissed off about this, particularly with the "Pierre Poutine" trial underway.

Good thing we don't go for those kind of dirty tricks here south of the border. Oh, wait. Never mind.

Hudak cribbing "Right to Work" was only the most blatant of the cues...
