Crimson Tide is one of those movies where the US Navy refused to participate ("shows a mutiny on a US ship") and it REALLY SHOWS because they get just about every technical detail wrong. It ITCHES. It's like how Independence Day showed every single plane owned by army, navy, marines, and airforce as a FA-18 Hornet (because "the military is ineffective" meant the military did not participate) except it's a major plot point.

Similarly, U-571's rewriting of history as "of course a bunch of Americans did it" irks.

Ah, the mapping of "technically accurate" to "good" is an undercurrent I did not see.

No - Independence Day is technically inaccurate but also still good. The difference between that and Crimson Tide is that in Independence Day, the inaccuracies are nonsense, but unimportant. Compared to Crimson Tide, where they're nonsense, and EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON THEM.

Imagine a movie where the ENTIRE PLOT hinges on modern Americans having no right to avoid self-incrimination, or no First Amendment. Imagine a movie about the details of American politics that has "the Senate is elected in exactly the same numbers and under the exact same conditions as Congress, except a single person may hold multiple offices, and that's why Joe McCarthy, 230-vote Senator for All States East Of The Rockies is the one person you need to convince!".

Imagine House Of Cards, except Frank Underwood is also a supreme court justice AND was born and raised in France to non-American French parents and does not speak a word of English.

That's why I don't like Crimson Tide.
