The Commonwealth has some astounding tech, like pip-boys with four color screens.

German trademark application by Bethesda Softworks for the name "FALLOUT: SHADOW OF BOSTON".

Sadly, according to Bethesda, not real. Which is too bad.

*goes off and does some googling* Ah, now I see. I'm also seeing that a lot of people were disappointed by the idea of the next Fallout being in Boston anyway, so it's probably a good thing it's not real.

I am obligated to respond to all instances of "more Fallout?" with YAAAAAAAAAAAAY or else [livejournal.com profile] torrain might pummel me.

That said, I want the next Fallout to be in the great city of Ronto (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ronto).

(Why is it called that? Because for hundreds of KM around it all the roadsigns tell you how far it is To Ronto.)

It cannot be worse than one set in DC.

Well. Could not have been. But you know.

I haven't played any of the games in the series, but off the top of my head, Boston doesn't seem like a very visually distinctive place to set a game.

It doesn't have to be currently visually distinctive. :)

Fallout is a retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic (now probably post-post-apocalyptic) setting, and that's Boston. You can tie it to the Tea Party, which is an event that can absolutely be mined for Crapsaccharine resonance, especially in light of how the US was behaving before the bombs fell. It had the Brahmins and the Catholics. It had the Great Fire. It had the Central Artery/Tunnel Project (yes, yes, half a century after the 50s, but still!).

And. And.

It has MIT.

(There was an android in Fallout 3 who's strongly implied to have been there. There's a place spoken of called the Institute. There... there could be an entire suburb that's like the Big Empty. My brain, it drools gently out my ears in glee.)

It's not my first choice; myself, I'd love Ronto, and I would take Detroit as my second pick. But Boston could have been a killer setting.

When you put it that way, Boston sounds like it would have been pretty awesome.

They should set it in Hartford, that place is already an apocalyptic wasteland.

Sadly, Bethesda says it's a fake.

-- Steve'd probably have bought it, though.
