it seems that security compromises are moving from proof-of-concept to practical exploits much faster these days. Weaponized USB chargers, DDoS's powered largely by hacked home routers... it used to be that hypothetical security vulnerabilities had a longer lead time before they became actual attacks.

Well, at least in public. The NSA probably was speeding up these sorts of developments before it was cool, but we didn't hear about it. Oh for the days when privately-run black market botnets were our biggest security issue.

This one is particularly nasty because it doesn't require any bad practices. The device it's attacking doesn't have to be plugged into the "charger".

I got my first touchscreen tablet in spring of '06, and got a wireless keyboard for it that summer. Back then my "Spidey sense" had me using only the touchscreen to enter stuff like logins and passwords...
