The Battleship movie did so well, how could they not do more board game movies?

That didn't do so hot at the box office either. It didn't make a profit at the box office, though I assume it's been profitable with its long tail. That's not exactly a financial model to emulate.

It lended itself movie better, since it has something of a narrative structure and characters built into the game. The proposal to remake Clue ran out of steam a couple years back, though.

Part of the problem at the box office was the gimmick of having three endings, but each theatre only had one - and some of the best scenes in the movie are in one or another of the endings.

Sadly it wasn't until Wayne's World that the multiple-ending problem was solved.

A prime example of something that was supposed to be terrible and was accidentally great. Since Christopher Lloyd is dead, I'm not guessing this will happen to Catan.

Don't be telling me cruel lies - Christopher Lloyd is NOT dead. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Lloyd)

But yes, it's extremely unlikely that Settlers would have the same lightning strike, especially given that Clue was a *good* game that was fun to play, and Settlers is not.

Wait, what?

I'm all for clue and all... but Settlers is really a very fun game to play, and if basic settlers isn't your thing there are about 8,000 other versions to go with.

I feel like you are trolling me. :)

I always found Settlers unbearable. And have never been interested in most of the "8000 other versions" because why play a variant on a game I hate when I could just play a game I don't hate instead.

I did like the original Thermonuclear Settlers Of Catan variant. Paraphrasing:
Additional Rule #1: Each player of TSoC gets a nuke, which they may play at any time.
Additional Rule #2: To play your nuke, slam your fist down in the middle of the play area and sweep it back and forth, scattering the map and pieces, representing the total destruction of the island. The game is now over. Everyone loses.
Additional Rule #3: TSoC is fully compatible with vanilla Settlers, and you do not need to inform the other players that you are playing TSoC. Additionally, you may begin playing TSoC in any Settlers game at any time. Just hand them a copy of these rules and that makes it legal, because it says so right here in these rules.

(The goal being: End the Settlers game and play something interesting, or fun, or at least DIFFERENT for once because oh god there was a time when people were like "Settlers! Let's play Settlers!" all the fucking time and even people who liked the game in the first place were getting tired of it.)

I hope Liam Neeson's in it so he can say, "I have wood for sheep."

Way back in the US there was for two blissful years a 'World Series of Pop Culture'. The team name for myself and two of my gamer friends? 'Three Wood for Sheep'.

Just dirty enough, but any Cataan player would get it.

I'll reserve judgement. The novel is surprisingly good...
