I find it funny that VW had become the poster child for benchmark gaming. Both Android phones and computer video hardware have been rife with it for years. The One True Source of benchmark gaming probably goes back to the dawn of dedicated computer graphics hardware, but recently at Nvidia and AMD have done it more recently.

Aside from that, it's well known that many if not most TV manufacturers have one preset mode to gain their energy star ratings-- one that no one uses in the real world.

Somehow, gaming benchmarks feels different from gaming regulatory compliance.

And cheating on *environmental* standards feels much grosser than, say, claiming an iPhone is faster than a similar Android.

One's a misleading advertising claim. The other is... worse.
