"P2P" idiots piss me off.
Feb. 24th, 2005 08:14 pmLokitorrent.com: A site devoted to hosting "torrents" - filesharing, largely illegal.
MPAA.org: An organisation devoted, among other things, to shutting down sites like lokitorrent.com
Take a look at the "MPAA Notice" on the front page of LokiTorrent.com. There are many torrent-sharing sites that went down because of an MPAA lawsuit. Lokitorrent reports that not only have they been order to shut down, but they've been ordered to turn over all their logs so that the MPAA can sue lokitorrent.com's users. Lokitorrent.com has been collecting donations for a legal defense fund.
Worthy cause, you're thinking? Maybe he's not doing something strictly legal, but they're being unreasonable dicks about it? Of course you can spare a few bucks, especially if you're a (former) user who doesn't want to get sued?
Of course, the fact that that page is a fake, the lawsuit doesn't exist, no such court order to turn over the records exists, and Edward Webb (the owner of the site) is defrauding people who donate to his "defense fund" does change the situation slightly. Take a look - he turned over his records VOLUNTARILY in a no-court-required deal. There's no lawsuit being argued. There's no way for him to "defend your privacy", since he's already fucked you for profit from the MPAA, and he's not trying.
News flash: This guy's entire site and business is devoted to STEALING. That's what he DOES. That's the entire source of revenue for his websites - and you're GIVING this guy money on *his* say-so? Maybe you missed that whole "makes his living by cheating and stealing" bit?
Christ, people are stupid.
